PandaPal - Autism Communication System is a communication tool that aims to facilitate exchange of information and enhance language skills, conceived by Kim Scott-DeLand, M.S., CCC-SLP, a Speech-Language Pathologist. This system enables non-verbal individuals to communicate by utilizing icons and sentence strips. PandaPal has shown efficacy in improving speech and language capabilities in numerous children with autism worldwide. The application features real photos, pioneering the use of authentic images and introducing a unique "touch and hold" function to prevent errors in icon activation. Guided by a charming gender-neutral panda character, PandaPal serves as a constant companion for your child's communication needs.

• “First & Then,” “Schedule Board,” and an “AAC device” functionalities are seamlessly integrated within Panda Pal.

PANDA PAL PRO

• Panda Pal includes 12 default categories; however, the Pro Version permits the addition of custom photos/categories as required.
• Categories can be personalized, deleted, supplemented, or substituted to cater to individual preferences.
• Each selected category leads to a dedicated page with around 20+ icons that can be further customized to align with specific user needs.
• PandaPal is highly adaptable with options for customization including photo, audio, and word modifications available in all languages.

REAL HD PHOTOS

• The app utilizes authentic photos instead of abstract illustrations for improved clarity and understanding.
• This approach has been noted by Kim to enhance communication success rates by reducing frustration and confusion significantly.

SIGN LANGUAGE PHOTOS

• Select high-frequency words such as “want,” “please,” “yes/no,” and "more" are represented using sign language photos.

CUSTOMIZE AUDIO

• The app is designed for extensive customization to support individual user needs and encourage linguistic development.
• Users can record words, phrases, or messages in digital voice but also have the option to re-record in their voice or that of a familiar person to enhance comfort and verbal proficiency in children with autism.
• Natural speech options are provided to promote accurate speech modeling over synthetic speech patterns.

INCIDENTAL LEARNING

• Facilitate reading acquisition by associating words directly with each photo; customizable font sizes and colors are available based on preferences.

TOUCH-AND-HOLD

• A distinctive feature created by Kim Scott-DeLand, M.S., CCC-SLP, to prevent accidental taps on incorrect icons, requiring users to touch and hold icons for one second before activation.
• This feature enhances accuracy in choices and can be enabled/disabled in settings per user preference.

CUSTOMIZE ICON SIZE

• PandaPal offers unique flexibility in adjusting icon sizes tailored to individual user requirements from extra-large icons (2 per page) to smaller sizes accommodating up to 24 icons per page for advanced learners.

DATA COLLECTION

• Data logging feature enables easy capture of sentences created by users with the option to track and monitor language progress over time, beneficial for Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and educators.

FIRST & THEN

• Structured to teach the concept of sequence, guiding children on understanding that one event must precede another; personalized events can be added from a library or through images taken within the app.
